These are taken from an old yearbook I found several years ago and still frequently refer to. At least every third face in the book makes me laugh for one reason or another. Click
here to see my rough sketches for these drawings, along with the actual photos that inspired them. I've taken the liberty of changing all the names and locations of these courageous individuals
"to protect the innocent"...namely,
me!

These are really cool! I still think drawing from your yearbooks is the best idea ever. Anyhow, I think I like the fourth guy best, but I can't decide which is funnier- the drawing, or the photo. That's a real nice way of cleaning up your sketches, too.
Thanks Katie... I'm just gettin' warmed up!
wow cool art man i really did the colors you use. solid.
it's really interesting how their expressions have slightly altered in your rendering, so giving them slightly different characters to the originals - giving them a different 'story' in the process.
for instance 'Diane' could be read as innocently hopeful or maybe a little tentative and apprehensive with those eyes whereas in the original there's quite a neutral expression going on there.
you've made 'Rachel' much more joyous as if she's reacting to a particularly warm and unexpected compliment; and i'll bet it was about the great flick-ups on her hair.
Kipp: Thank you. Seems you know
The Way of the BG. I'm envious.
WW: Your observations are true, but it wasn't on purpose. Maybe I was enjoying finally getting to work at my own desk and it crept into the work.
I must admit to having lot of affection for most every face in the book, even though I don't really know any of them and wasn't alive yet to attend
their graduation ceremony. You'll being seeing
more of them.
stlouiswilly: Looks like the brain bleed still hasn't let up, as you're repeating yourself again. Do you still listen to Rush? That could be the problem right there. An MRI and a tuning fork could make all the difference.
These are Crazy-Cool! I love the sketches! Barret looks like he could be Chris Cornell's less attractive brother.
I love your sketch of Rachel. She's my favorite in the batch! Great caricatures!
Dear Celebrity Art Student/
Face-making Moppet,
Thank you for your recent comments.
Your happy words are always welcome here.
An eensy slice of your future success
is more than I can hope for.
You would love the real-life Rachel Byer too,
by the way. I heard recently that she has subject herself to some sort of office job
in Chicago. That just ain't kosher!
Ya see, Rachel's one komish feter meidel!!
These are hilarious!
Thanks Ryan... more coming up!
Soon!
I think!
Probably!
I keep meaning to tell you how well you can draw and that I'm adding you to my list of blogs... and now I've done both!
